Single-Lumen / Multi-Lumen Extrusion
Single Lumen
Ansamed produce single lumen tubing for use in a multitude of medical devices. Typical applications include tubing for use in catheters of all types, stents, stent delivery systems and patient monitoring lines.
Ansamed specialise in producing single lumen tubes to exact dimensional tolerances and mechanical requirements. Further applications are found in the blowing of balloons used in Percutaneous Coronary and Peripheral Angioplasty (PTCA, PTA) catheters to larger balloons used in respiratory products.
Single lumen tubes can be produced with one to three layers of materials of different compositions to enhance mechanical performance and processablilty. Ansamed single lumen extrusions are extensively used as outer body tubing in PTCA catheters where exacting dimensional, functional and cosmetic standards apply.
Multi-Lumen Extrusion
Multi-Lumen tubing consists of two or more lumens. Lumen shapes can be specifically designed to meet end user requirements. Lumens are typically used for the passage of guidewires, fluids, catheters and gases.
The lumen can be contained within a tube of round outer diameter or a specified geometric cross section (e.g. oval, figure 8).
The number of lumens that can be contained within a given tube are dependent on the materials being used and the cross sectional area of the tube in question.
Ansamed multi-lumen extrusions are found extensively in Percutaneous Angioplasty Balloon Catheters, Central Venus Catheters and Fertility catheters.
